With Christmas being just around the corner, now is the perfect time to buy all the presents for your boys. If you don’t have an idea about what kind of present to give them, you might want to consider a remote controlled toy. Remote controlled toys make for great presents, not just for young boys, but for hobbyists of all age. They’re the perfect gift to convince your kids to get away from the computer and the TV.

Nowadays, you can find RC truck kits for sale, so that your kids can put them together themselves, like a DIY project. RC truck kits can be costly, so you shouldn’t be buying one without some prior knowledge on the brands, the type of motors, and how they run. Understanding the specifications will help you find the perfect RC truck kits for sale.

Brands

Some of the most popular brands of RC trucks are Traxxas, Exceed, HPI and Tamiya. All of these companies produce fast, durable and high quality RC toys. The cost between them highly varies, and you generally get what you pay for. The more expensive cars require less maintenance, but they generally incorporate newer technologies, so that may mean replacement parts are expensive as well.

Electric vs Nitro

Most RC toys can be either electric or nitro powered. Both options have their advantages and disadvantages, although I personally prefer electric for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, they’re generally cheaper, cleaner and require less maintenance. Furthermore, they accelerate faster and are just better for in-home use, as they don’t leave any smell behind. On the downside, they require batteries and have limited run times. Nitro, on the other hand, have longer run times and sound better. However, they might leave a smell and you’ll have to buy gas every once in a while.

Brushed vs Brushless Motors

RC toys can either have a brushed or brushless motor and each of them has their own specific kind of electronic speed controller. Without an electronic speed controller, your truck would just go full throttle or do nothing at all when you want to drive. Brushless motors are the more expensive option, but they’re more powerful, fast, efficient and last longer. Brushed, on the other hand, are cheaper but lack power and are very inefficient. Brushed motors usually last to about a year, while brushless motors don’t have an expiration date. The most notable difference between the two types is: the brushed motors have two wires and ventilation holes, while the brushless are fully sealed and have three wires.
