Industries Where We Can Use CNC Machining
Think of CNC machining as the highly sophisticated, modern version of what is known as ordinary machining process; there’s a computer involved and a very complex program that initiates the commands. Because CNC machines are that good, their use spreads across companies on a different scale; from the very small to the gigantic ones. And consequently, programmers that can create a program for these machines and maintain it, add a great boost to their job portfolio.
CNC machines can do a lot in various aspects in a number of different industries. As long as machines are needed for performing various jobs, CNC machines will be used. Here is a list of industries that most commonly use CNC machining:
1. Metal removing industries
These industries concentrate on the process of removing metal from raw materials so that they shape them as required. The automotive industry, as a widely familiar example, mainly uses CNC machines for creating the shafts, gears and other parts for vehicles. The process includes a lot of different machine tools like lathe, milling, drilling, boring and shaping machines, reamers and similar for achieving the desired shape of every part. Also, all turning operations like facing, grooving, knurling and threading can be performed with a CNC machining centre.
2. Industries for fabricating metals
When we talk about fabricating metals, we mainly focus on producing those thin plates made of steel which are used for various industrial purposes. Here, operations like shearing, plasma cutting, laser cutting, forming and welding are all conducted with CNC lasers and CNC plasma cutters. Other procedural steps like punching holes in plates and shaping plates are made with CNC turret punchers and CNC press brakes, respectively.
3. EDM Industry
Commonly known vertical and wire EDM techniques use CNC technology for removing metal. The procedure is conducted by using the sparks that are created while burning the metal. Both techniques are used for various purposes, but modern machines used for conducting them are all CNC. Vertical EDM uses electrical sparks or discharges for machining the pieces, whereas wire EDM is pretty much the same thing just that this procedure relies more on wire burning and wire erosion to get the desired shape.
4. Other industries
Industries that don’t include working with metals also use CNC machinery. For instance, wood working industries, where drilling and routing are often performed, use CNC technology. Also, industries like lettering and engraving make use of CNC machines. A number of industries also use the so-called CNC coil winders and CNC machines for soldering and terminal location.
