Architectural Elements: Break Out of the Ordinary and Create Your Own Style

Isn’t it sad how despite all the trends and different styles, somehow we still end up with a uniform look that takes away the charm of uniqueness? While it applies to our choice of clothing, it also applies to our homes and the styles we opt for. Most often, people don’t exactly check more than a few magazines and shops when they’re in the need of a makeover, letting function and price come over style. I’m not saying you should over splurge on furnishing and ornaments, but rather find the pieces that are cost-effective yet not at the expense of style either. The reason traditional architecture has remained a thing of admiration for so long is because of the uniqueness it carries, sort of like personal traits.

You can’t expect to get awe-inspiring results if you keep on using the same or similar pieces your friends and family do, or everything you hear designers give a green light to and instead of focusing only on the furnishing, give architectural elements some thought as well. Usually, more focus is put on getting a home design that’s liveable, leaving out your boldness to break out of the ordinary that surrounds you and try something different. In fact, you can even combine elements with your current style and give it a personal touch, end up creating your own.

For instance, even if your home may have a modern oriented look, you’d do wonders by the addition of hand-crafted door, window shutter, or an intricate teak panel and you’d see the difference. Particularly if it’s in old rustic style, with special beauty hidden in all the marks and scratches. There are plenty of architectural elements that could be part of your home and help emphasise your individuality. There’s nothing quite like wood because of its natural tones and the warmth it brings about, making a place feel more homely.

Wouldn’t merging your own style bring about more joy? Instead of creating living space that resembles the rest and is a pale copy, you’d come up with something that would inspire others to copy it and marvel at it; I’d choose the second one anytime. Decorating one’s home is like painting, and what comes out on the canvas is up to you so why not make it a feast for the eyes. This experience would make you bolder, more willing to trust your eye for beauty and enrich your surroundings, helping you break away from monotony.
